WHAT’S A MOVIE WITHOUT POPCORN?!
We love making popcorn in our house, especially on a Friday movie night or just as a great snack, for the kid’s lunchboxes or as a staple diet when pregnancy cravings hit! Yes, this was me when I was pregnant with Cooper, I could not get enough popcorn, in fact, I made it by the stockpot!
HOMEMADE IS BETTER
If you’re reading this I’m going to assume you’re not interested in making those 2 minute, set your microwave on fire packet popcorns and would rather make it yourself. Hooray! Great start, but it’s important to know that the oils we use to cook with have an effect on our health too. More importantly the health of your heart. Popcorn itself has great health benefits, assuming we’re not covering it in all other kinds of nasties. So make it with coconut oil and go easy on the salt. (Himalayan salt is great!)
SOME OTHER HEALTH BENEFITS OF POPCORN INCLUDE:
- Great fiber content for digestive health
- Lowers your cholesterol levels and your chances of heart attacks and strokes.
- Blood Sugar; When the body has sufficient amounts of fibre it can regulate the release and management of blood sugar and insulin levels.
- Weight Loss
- Anti-ageing
NOW I KNOW YOU’RE READY TO GET POPPING…
Ingredients:
1/2 Cup Organic Popping Corn
2 Tablespoons coconut oil
Himalayan Salt or Sea Salt
Method:
- Heat a large, heavy-bottom pot over medium heat.
- Add the coconut oil and let it completely melt. Once the oil is completely melted put a few kernels into the pan, turn the heat up slightly and wait for them to pop. This helps to determine when the oil is heated enough to pop your corn.
- Once the test kernels have popped, place the rest of the popcorn seeds into the pan and cover.
- After the kernels begin popping, begin to shake every 10 seconds or so until you hear the popping slow down. When the popping begins to slow down remove the pan from heat and continuously shake for another 30 seconds. This helps to stop the popcorn at the bottom from burning.
- When you feel the popping is complete pour into a bowl, add salt to taste and voila.
Voila! A quick and easy snack that with a slight change in how its made is so much better for you! If you want to see how its made, you can head on over to my Youtube channel and check out Vlog 3.
Love and health,
